Stephen turned professional in 1982. Rapidly gaining an international reputation for his designs and quality of workmanship. He is the winner of numerous national and international turning awards.
He is a regular demonstrator at exhibitions,woodturning clubs and organizations, as well as being a woodturning instructor. In the early 90s Stephen became an assessor for the Register of Professional Turners held by the Worshipful Company of Turners, who ensure that the highest standard of work and professionalisim are met. He has written many articals on woodturning projects in Woodworker and Practical Woodworking magazines.
In 2003 Stephen was asked to design and make the giant Wassail bowl, some 54” high x 36” dia.,
[probably the largest in the world ] for the Master of the Worshipful Company of Turners to sit in on the Company’s float in the Lord Mayor’s show, celebrating the company’s 400th anniversary.

Stephen’s work covers all aspects of woodturning, from spindle work, rocking chairs, stools,dining chairs, spinning wheels etc. to hollow forms, natural edged vases/ bowls,coloured and or textured bowls including translucent work.and a form called “a peeling vase”.
A recent commission from the Worshipful Company of Musicians was for a 4- way music stand presented to the Lord Mayor of London.
I am very fortunate to be working with the most beautiful of all natural materials – wood, and I feel I release the spirit of the wood, so that each piece is unique.
I examine every log carefully to release the best of the grain and features, to enhance the beauty of the form.
